The homeless community called her ‘The coat lady”. Veronica Scott has founded the initiative The Empowerment Plan that aims at lifting people out of poverty.
First came the design of a sleeping bag that can be transformed into a coat for people living and sleeping outdoors. Afterwards she has started manufacturing the sleeping bag – coat with the help of people living in shelters. The initiative also offer them literacy classes and computer classes supported by Microsoft.
The project has also the backing of private companies like GM, Carhatt, American Express, Diane Von Furstenberg and Domino’s Pizza, among others.
